On Your Mark

BE072351

Philippians 3:12-14: So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it. Stick with me friend. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. (The Message)

In every race, there is a starting line. It is important for each runner to find their mark. I remember watching a specific race on television and one of the runners mistakenly tried to line up in the wrong lane. Obviously the race didn’t start until he found “his mark”. Have you found “YOUR” mark?

With the world’s population of almost six and a half billion, no two people have the same fingerprints. Not even identical twins. Yet another example of how special we are to God. We are the apple of His eye. He delicately designed each of us in His own image and yet blessed us with unique traits. What an amazing God! There is only one of you! There is nobody else like you! Celebrate your uniqueness. God has a perfect plan….. Just for you! Jeremiah 29:11 tells us of those plans. He wants to give you hope, a future and prosperity. He wants your race to go well! It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done. You can learn from the past but you don’t have to live in it.

I remember hearing at a young age, “You can be anything you want to be”! That is not true. Each of us has individual God-given strengths. We must recognize what those are and allow God to mold us as we serve Him. Still, it is up to you to make the right choices. You have to get on “YOUR” mark. You have to decide if you’ll submit to God and His word. You have to be disciplined to run, to stay in the race and to finish the course. It will not always be easy. Sometimes you’ll have to run uphill. Sometimes the course may seem lonely. At times, you might be running and not see what’s around the corner. There will be hurdles trying to trip you up. Don’t be discouraged. Don’t give up! God promises us in Hebrews 13:5 that He would never leave us or forsake us.

Our nephew Tavita Pritchard is the quarterback for the University of Stanford. Two years ago he led the Cardinals to a made-for-Hollywood win over then #1 USC Trojans. It was a story for the ages. Some called it the biggest upset in college football history. As I watched Tavita being interviewed shortly after the game, I was so proud of him. Someone from ESPN asked him, “What were you thinking out there?” “What were you doing?” Tavita responded, “We just do what we do?” In essence, that’s what God asks of you and me. You do you! Let me do me!

Find “YOUR” mark! Stay focused on the goal. Run your race with faith and discipline. Encourage those you see running this same course. Remember, God who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.

Until next week,
Faith for the Race!

I always tell my nieces and newphews that God created only one of them, and that he has special plans for them. But along the way I have forgotten that for myself. I always try to encouage others but fail to do it for myself. I have felt like a failure and can’t figure out what I am supposed to do with my life. I just need to stay focused and figure out my goal and run my race! Thanks for the encourgement Joe!!! This is what I need to get me back in my race! God Bless you guys!!!!!

  • http://baylormum.blogspot.com Shellie (baylormum)

Even when I got off the path for a time God was there, I just chose not to follow His plan. That led to some stupid behaviors that got me into a lot of trouble. I am now back in the race & am also a recovering addict.
God knows our path even before we find our “mark” to start the race. Making that next right choice isn’t always easy, but I must be steadfast in the belief that God has my back. It didn’t seem like it when I got fired from my job for theft! It’s amazing that God knew I would do these wrongful acts, but it was just one of those hurdles in the path. I did make it over that hurdle and continue to run the race. I’m a little overweight & slow, but that’s ok, too. I’m staying in the race and that’s what is important. Staying focused, staying in prayer, and being a light to those behind me.

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

No matter what I am thinking God is always there for me and everyone else in His Kingdom! He will keep us on track if we reach out to Him and ask for Him to be there. I love knowing that if I ever have a struggle in my life there are people in my church that I can go to and they will pull me right back on track for God. That’s what I like about this word is that we are all running the same race and if there is a struggle or a weakness go to someone you trust and let them run the race with you(that is such an encouragement!!) It’s also true take time to think about your strengths for God. I know God gave me the strength to encourage people. I never knew how to do that until now. When I encourage people I can feel God giving me the strength to love Him even more and that is so powerful to me. God’s Grace is everything when we are running the race for Him! No matter what you feel like run your race for Him with everything you have!

    God Bless!

Well, I know of at least 3 people who are on their mark. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. As in any race, it takes one step at a time. Or as one writer wrote; “How you live your day is how you live your life”. One day at a time. The key is, I must find my mark to take my first step. Have a great day Kuzins

  • john

Hey Kuzins, just wanted to let you all know that I`m proud of you and believing that as we run this race tgether, together

Hey Kuzins, just wanted you all to know that I`m praying for you and I believe that as we run this race together, together we shall reap a harvest as we enhance the Kingdom of God on the earth. Stay encouraged!

    john
    Phil. 1:6

  • john

Sorry Kuzins, thought I deleted that first paragragh. Don`t be confused like me! ha! ha!

  • Joy

Ahhh.choices. My kids laugh when Jake and I tell them that life is all about the choices you make. (Although we are predestined).
While we’ve always raised them with Godly examples, I’ve (notice, I don’t say we’ve…lol.) always given them room for their own growth and exploration. While they know what is right and what the boundries are, b/c that is the way we’ve raised them, they have room to see things for themselves and make their own good decisions.
God does the same for us – freewill. We know what is right and acceptable in His eyes. We also know what He would not approve of.
Like raising kids…the race can be a struggle sometimes :-)
    xo

  • Joy

    And for God, as well.
Raising His children up the way in which we should go, is
    probably a struggle sometimes, too.

I love these devotions. They’re encouraging and challenging. I’ve been reading at work on my breaks (on my pantech lol) and I love being able to have these messages to chew on throughout the day.

I think sometimes it’s when we face those hurdles, or hills, or lonely seasons running the race, that we experience God in such a life-changing way – and our stride gets a lil stronger ;)

  • http://1pokinatcha.blogspot.com/ Pokinatcha

Thanks for this devotion, it was nice. I’m going to have to ask my husband about that upset…he’s a big USC fan & he likes you guys. Wonder if I can stump him with the QB relation!

  • rj

Praise God! Thank you Preacherman Brother Joe, the Word is filling, refreshing, inspiring, and keeps me focused. Discipline is something I’m needing to learn and grow in. Thank you Jesus for always keepin it real! Thank u also for helping Bro Niel tell me that I have to hit blog to see today’s instead of stuck on the old one. (rotfl) even in technology like these blogs he is teaching me! Gods continued blessing, ” He is good all the time!”

While I was a church tonight I heard the best preaching ever. I thought I would share some of it because I that about all of us running the same race together for our God. The pastor talked about how we all need an enemy in our lives. When we have an enemy in our lives we can take God’s strength and fight our battles even harder. Think about this the best spiritual meals are in front of our battles. The enemy is running the risk of helping you better your everyday life.

It’s the same thing as running the race together for God. God is there cheering us on to run even harder for Him. The harder you run for Him the stronger your love will be for Him. Know if you fall it’s ok someone is there to help you run your race even better.

God has a purpose for all of us! Make sure you know your purpose for God and make sure you know why you are running for God!

  • Anna ~Federal Way, Wa

“On your mark” were meaningless words to me, until now.
I remembered in elementry, we had a school rally and races were pretty much taken place there all day. Everyone had to participate in a race & no matter how short or long the races were, we all had to be in a race. I hated racing or furthermore, running so I planned on getting sick & not participate. Well, I tried… lol, the plan went out the window per teacher.
Did I get “On my Mark”??? I did a couple times & I remembered giving up in a middle of a race. I had set my mind on defeat before I got “on my mark”.
Its always hard to move up to the Mark. You get sweaty palms, heart pumping, shaking, cold sweats, nerve racking…. all the things for you not to step to the MARK.

Now I know how important the words “On Your Mark” is. I loved when Good Morning America did a story at the Summer Olympics 2008. What are the athletes listening to on their iPod, Mp3, Zunes…before their race? Many of them listen to music & in meditation, helping them to get hyped and focused for their challenge.
As I stand “On My Mark” ready to take the challenges yet to come, I find Worship and prayer as a lifestyle. May it lead and sustain me throughout my race.

God did not make me to be a failure, but to succeed with boldness. Yes, indeed he has a purpose for us…we’ve got the drive..just get ready for the take off…set your mind on things that is above.

Sis Liz..what a conformation “God is there cheering us on to run even harder for Him” Our pastor spoke on this today title “Taking a Stand”.

Blessings to you all through Christ.
    Anna

  • Anna ~Federal Way, Wa

Sorry Liz, (My last paragraph) I misinterpret Pastor’s series. Title should be “Take the Lead”. He has called us for greatness so we become Leaders.

    Thanks.

  • Ivan

This is just what I needed to get me on the right track! Ive lost touch with my relationship with God..Ive been so caught up with what’s been going on around me that my focus has been turned away from the Lord. Now more then every I need to get back on the right track. Thank you for the great message.

  • joe

    Family,

Great to read the testimonies and challenges that we all face at one time or another. For the new friends on the course..”WELCOME”! Glad to have you with us! For the regular runners….finding YOUR mark is a process! As we all continue to seek God’s purposes for our lives, the MARK becomes more clear everyday!

    Peace!

  • =MFlolo=

I was just appreciating this Devotion and its truths, especially the shocking statement that “you CAN’T be anything you want to be.” This is true. And I have found out, as a person who encourages others, that everyone needs direction but that it isn’t always your brother or sister who should tell you what direction to go. Especially for a Christian, who is born again and is filled with the Holy Spirit, there is a guiding light on the inside of that person and GOD is at work. HE alone orders your footsteps according to HIS plan and desire for your life and its purpose. Don’t you just love a success story. I do. Even the secular world’s success stories are awesome. Why? Because those stories usually tell a tale of a person at rock bottom who skyrockets to the top and becomes rich. And the delusion or the scheme of the enemy is that if you aren’t at the top you aren’t successful and can’t be rich . It’s only good at the top if GOD puts you there. But the laws of our GOD are sometimes backwards in retrospect. “the lesser will become the greater”, “the weak will become strong” “the poor are rich” Mother Theresa is a fine example, she was not at the top of the world, nor a successful person according to the worlds stantards. She didn’t have a fancy hotel in Vegas, a clothing line or perfume capitalizing on her name. But, rather her “mark” was at the bottom. She cared for the lost and broken, giving people in need affection and love. When she chose to please GOD she found her “mark”
This is where I am hard at work on me. I am choosing to please the Lord first and not man first. I want to run my race. Because it is special and unique to me. I lived many years running other peoples race. And even today there are many distractions, opinions and advisers with things to say about my race. I found out that when you try to please man you also feed your flesh. Then the pride of life can creep in on ya and steel your soul.
GOD has the plan and the upper hand! He can work out any situation for good. The race is challenging but the reward is so good. And I am always blessed to know that I am not running alone. By the way, I was just sharing a few thoughts that popped into my head. I totally believe in spiritual and financial prosperity and that it is all from GOD according to HIS perfect timing and will. I am so determined to see things the way that GOD sees them. It isn’t easy. But the more I spend time with GOD then all things are possible. Thank you for allowing me to learn at my pace, and run my race. Much love.

PRAISE DA LORD!! Brother Flolo; dat testimony is just “BOMB DIGGITY- POUMU-Bomb in Samoan- DIGGITY! like Bro Chaggy say!

    Freedom in Jesus!

  • Michele

Wow! What awesome testimonies! I am on my “mark” this week and plan to allow God to speak through his spirit to my daughter’s and my heart. I want to be able to teach through example that it is better to tear down emotional walls than to keep them so high that others aren’t allowed in. Only Christ can heal deep seeded hurts and bring about radical change and healing. Prior to a few days ago, I did not see clearly how fast verbal and non-verbal communication can cutt off a relationship. This is true with our conversations with God. We we are so self focused, Christ seems so far away. Our prayers feel like they hit the ceiling and stop. When we are so focused on getting our way in a relationship, the relationship crumbles or becomes hardened. It is up to us to change how we respond, not try to convince someone what they need to do different. so this week, ask Christ to give you the desire to put Him and others above your own needs. Christ will always answer prayers that are in alignment with His plan for our life! Bless you christian brothers and sisters. Love and Blessings, Michele

    Hey Everyone,

“As we find purpose in our lives, the mark becomes much clearer”. I love it.
    Thanks Bro Joe.

I have to remeber to feed my Spirit daily by reading His Word. It helps to come in here and read all the scriptures that I find up in here.
And I know if I don’t read I lack wisdom. I’m ashame of not knowing His Word like i’m suppose to but one thing i’m learning here while we run this race is that ” I do Me”.

    Night, Night Yall…
    Blessings,
    Anna

For me, running this race with yall means leaving something comfortable and embracing something new. Finding my mark is possibly the most difficult thing right now. As I run into the unknown, I do not know where my mark is, I haven’t found it yet.

There is also a larger perspective of running the race of our faith…our walk with God in a bigger picture…this is a race I’ve been running for years and will continue to run with yall. On the other hand, the race I’m embarking on right now is a personal one, a different type of race….a race of the unknown. Praying God directs me so i know where my mark is…asking for yalls prayers as I find my mark and embrace what’s to come. One thing I am most certain of is that when i find that mark, I AM READY!!!

    Keepin it real,
    LIZZERD

  • James

Thanks for sharing Lizzerd. Just stay connected to the Lord and His word, he will most certainly show you your mark. Blessings

  • Michele

Lizzerd, appreciate your honesty about not knowing where your mark is, and the courage to stay in the race even in the face of uncertainty. I have read and re-read the book of 2nd Peter and have been pondering the message he gives. In 2 Peter 1:2, he asks, “ Do you want more of God’s kindness and peace?” Then learn to know him better and better. For as you know Him better, He will give you….”But to obtain these gifts, you must need more than faith, you must also work hard, and even that is not good enough. For then you must learn to know God better and discover what He wants you to do.” Do you notice that this passage talks about how we must pursue Christ. We must be active; sitting and waiting is NOT an option. It is our responsibility to search for Him in all circumstances. It is our responsibility to pick up the bible to read His word. It is our responsibility to pray, love others, and do His work. All in all, we must pursue a relationship with Him. It is in our pursuing that He will reveal himself more and more. It is easy to get discouraged and stop pursuing Him. However, we cannot stay there. We must get back in the race and continue pushing forward. Thank the Lord we have each other to keep pushing each other and motivating each other to stay focused on the race. So Lizzerd, as a sister in Christ I am here to tell you that you have already found your mark. You are pursuing and are learning about Him, yes at your own pace, but nonetheless, you are pursuing! I admire you for Keeping it real. Love and Blessings, Michele

    Ephesians 2:4-5&8(Amp)
    But God–so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us,Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation).For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved ([delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God;

I love my church so much because everytime I walk out of my church after it is over I know God is there and I know I can take what I learn from church and apply it to make my walk stronger. At the same time I know it’s not all about me all the time but it’s about trying to make the world a better place and letting people see who Jesus is through what I do.

Right now the pastors in my church have been talking about the grace of God. It’s been amazing to know that the bible = God’s grace!! God’s grace can be a living revelation. Ask yourself can you give people grace and forgiveness when it doesn’t make since? Meaning when the person in your world is driving you crazy can you still forgive him or her when you don’t want to?

I love the race I am running right now. I know everyday I wake up that I am a daughter of the King and that I am going to do what I can to serve Him. When I do my best to serve Him He will open better doors in my life. Plus words can’t say how amazing it is to know that He loves me! Yes I do have hard days once in awhile but in those days I just take it min by min and know that God is on my side. Because of the Faith God has given me I know that anything is possible. When you start knowing God better and loving Him with everything it is so easy to run the good race for Him. Have the attitude of serving God instead of wondering and waiting for God to do something good for you. When you go out into your world and know that you are serving God with everything your race will become so much more positive. Maybe you should take a min and think of where you were before your good race for God and then realize where you are now.. it’s because God is cheering you on and wanting you to have that good unbelivable race for Him. Do what you can to please Him!!

    Hebrews 4:16
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Know that He is there helping you run your race better!! God loves you.. you don’t need to make things better first and then run your race.. no come run your race and let our God help you run your race better!

    Be Blessed!
    Elizabeth

Hey all my beautiful racing buddies….awww how is everyone doing? Well, its the end of sabbath day for us here in the Northwest, & yes indeed, thank God that success begins on Sunday. It’s been a great day inspite of all our challenges we faced through our past week. Praise God I’m still in the race.

Hey Lizzerd, I admire you keeping it real. Its true, for some of us, we have been runners for a long time & it is a larger perspective of running the race of our faith but remember to keep our focus because our reward is GREAT. What ever you’re facing that is keeping you from getting on your next mark, I know you could do it. Stay encourage and get in His Word. It helped me when I started journaling. I wrote and planned out what I needed to do, then eliminate them quickly. Don’t wait too long or start procastinating on important things. I know you are an overcomer & a conqueror.
Hello Michele, all I have to say is wow sis. You are such a blessing. Thanks for the words of encouragement that was meant for Lizzerd, but it was a blessing to me too. God Bless you.

Blessing to all that comes in the Name of the Lord…what a name “JESUS”.
    Love Anna

Anna, love you too sis! Isn’t it great to have sisters in Christ that just love each other. I am greatful that J-E-S-U-S works in each of us and gives us the gentle nudge to keep pursuing Him.
All of the postings in this devotion are an inspiration and a motivator to keep running the good race. This fellowship with one another is a blessing and glory to God because we are participating with the intent to know God better and help others to come to know him through the realness of His work in each of our lives. May you be blessed beyond your most imaginable dreams. Love you sister Anna.
    My prayer for today is:
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me. Wow! Your love knows no boundries- even when I sin against you, you will still forgive me when I confess my sins to you. How wonderful it is to be called your friend. Thank you Jesus for putting these new friends in Christ in my life. You know just what each of us needs to run our race. May you be glorifiedtoday in all my actions and in words. When I am hungry for physical food, may you replace that hunger with spiritual food, For you have given me in abundance and sometimes I take that for granted. May I surrender all to you today, and may I not be hungry for anything other than you. For you are the great physician, friend, and Almighty God. I give myself to you. AMEN.”

You gotta love it.
Is good to see you in here again Sis Ruta!

    Blessings to you all!!!

  • Stephanie

After finding this website a few days ago, I find that I am drawn to it for all of the encouraging words and the beautiful songs. I am going through the toughest trial of my life right now and when you are in the midst of that, it is so hard to find your mark for any race. I have my faith and belief in God, but every day that goes by it can be hard to bare. I want to run the race, I want to find my joy again but my heart is filled with sorrow and pain right now. I now there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but I can’t see it right now. Please, I am asking for prayers from anyone willing to pray for me, to pray that my husband Ron will be able to return home to me and my 4 children and my family will be restored. I have cried so many tears, I am so tired. I pray that God would show me mercy.

  • James

Stephanie, I’m glad that you found this community. You are amongst family and my wife and I commit to praying for you. We are standing with you.

  • http://busytimesplus3.blogspot.com/ Liz

Hey Stephanie,, I will pray for you. Stephanie have you ever taken time for yourself and just cried out to God or prayed to Him? Sorry fo everything that has happened in your life. You know what is so cool is that our Father God loves you and He won’t ever let you go because you are a daughter of Him. I just learned something in my church and that is that the best soul foods are at the start of a battle. That means you can take God’s love and know that He is going to get you through the battle without even questioning it.

Before I knew God my life was so dry and so boring. I felt so alone and was fighting deppression at some points. I have only been a born again Christian for 8 years. The first 3 years were really tough for me because I was so lost and so broken. People were there for me. I stuck it out and started to believe that things would get better. I started to believe that God is the God above all else and He is the Father and after that my walk has been a blessing. I stuck it out too because when I walked though the doors of my church God called me home and I could feel Him all around me and that was really, really big for me. One thing that has been big for me is that when I started believing in God better I started to worry about what I could do for Him and not worry about what others thought so much. Today my walk with God is the best that it has ever been. I have so much passion to serve Him. My life has changed for the better because I gave God a chance.

Here is one bible verse that has stuck with me since I started my walk.

    Psalm 139:1
O Lord, you have examined my heart
    and know everything about me.

God already knows you. No matter what happens around you you can always count on God to give you the best love and the best doors to your better life. The best part about this verse is the second line because it is so positive.

    I hope I could help???

Let God bless you with His love and faith for you!

    God Bless,,
    Elizabeth

  • Michele

Stephanie, as I write this I am closing my eyes and praying for you (yes I can type with eyes shut… survival for the work I do. LOL). Here we go….. Father God, I know that you know Stephanie more intimately than she knows herself. I pray and trust that you meet every need she has. For you Father God have promised to meet our needs. Sometimes we have wants that are not provided, but our needs yes. You promise that. Thank you Lord for that promise. In the bible it talks about “do not worry about tomorrow, or what you will eat, or what you will wear… even the birds to not worry about that!” Oh how much more precious we are than the creatures of the earth, so we can be confident all needs will be met. God, Stephanies heart is broken, and she is tired. give her your strength and your peace. Speak to her in a way that she understands and in a way that she hears you. May she feel the love and awesomeness of your spirit. May she humble herself and give up whatever it is you need her too. Give her the faith to take whatever step it is you want her to take. Fill her with the food and nourishment of your Holy Spirit. Wrap your loving arms around her and give her good rest tonight. Amen!
Sister Steph, you are in my prayers too. So keep your running shoes on, keep the faith, pursue God and He will draw near to you. You are NOT alone. There are many brothers and sisters in christ praying for you too. So think about this…. You are praying, we are praying for you, but most important… The Holy spirit in you is praying as well… and the bible says that even when you don’t know what to say, the Holy spirit does and will speak on your behalf!!!! What a gift! Love and blessings,
    Michele

Lord Jesus, there is no one but you whom we can bring our burdens too who is able to carry them to take them and make life our heavy hearts light again. You know the brokeness in our Sister Steph’s heart and so we stand in agreement with her for restoration of her broken heart, for peace that passes all understanding, and the reassurance of your giving her a spirit of love, power and a sound mind. Lord restoration for her family unit you alone are our ever present help in times of trouble. We pray God for protection, comfort to her and their children, we pray also for her husband Jesus your way, your love and your perfect answers for this beloved family. It’s in your name Jesus we humbly pray and we will be quick to give you all the praise, glory, honor and thanks even now for answering our beloved sister. Psalm 126:5″Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.” Romans 8:37 God bless you Sister Steph we are here for you! James, Liz, Michelle and Sista RJ Thank you for your prayers. I think I feel the power of them, sounds weird. But I feel as if that night something was protecting my heart. I did not cry myself to sleep that night. I did cry when I read everyone of your blogs posts, because it overwhelms me to know that you care. I printed everything you all wrote and have been reading them over and over along with the scriptures to try and help me. Thank you!

You are God’s special creation Stephanie! There is none other like you. God knew you before you were born. He has a special plan for your life. You are loved and treasured. My Grandma always told me that the tears cried when experiencing deep emotions are tears of “living water” . Crying is difficult for me, somehow it makes me feel weak, like I can’t cope. But guess what? We are not meant to cope alone. We are meant to depend on Jesus! So I remind myself when I experience overwhelming moments that Christ made my body, and he created ALL emotions. And somehow it is comforting to me to think about my tears as “living water.” Blessings to you! Love, Michele
