I remember as a little kid anticipating the New Year. We would have a “Watch Night” service from 10 PM to midnight. Every family in our little church would sing a song and share their excitement for the New Year. We’d hear the fire works off in the distance and the deacons were constantly checking their watches. Our Dad would preach a motivating sermon while we all tried our best to stay awake. It seemed like no matter how successful we were in building the anticipation for the countdown, once the clock struck midnight it was normally a bit anticlimactic. January 1st would arrive and then we’d be on to the next year.
It seems like the older I get, I’m a little more sentimental. I guess I’m actually starting to realize that each year is truly a gift. Not one is guaranteed. As we enter 2-0-1-0, (just looking at those four digits is surreal) I am filled with hope and great expectations. I truly believe that we are living in the greatest time ever known to man. I know that in God, the “BEST” is always yet to come. He promises to be with us no matter what we will face. (Matthew 28:20) There are great challenges that are waiting for us ahead. We don’t have to face them alone. There are problems that need to be solved. You and I have the answer. People are fearful of what tomorrow may bring. It’s our responsibility to give them the hope the lives in us. Tell them the good news. Show them by how you live. Heal them with the love that you give. Remind them that because of Jesus and what He’s already done, “The BEST is yet to come”!
Happy New Year!
